Family Shared Calendar: Never Miss a Birthday Again

What is Radicale?

Radicale is a simple and easy-to-use calendar sharing tool, like a “cloud calendar.” It allows us to record all family members’ birthdays in one place, and then everyone’s mobile phones and computers can display these birthday reminders. Environment Preparation

1. Install the 【GiMao·XiaoJi】 APP
2. Activate the 【Shared Calendar】 service
3. Ensure the computer and mobile phone are on the same local network

Step 1: Create Calendar Service

Use the 【GiMao·XiaoJi】 【Shared Calendar】 service to create a family calendar service

Calendar service information:

• Server address: http://<your_server_address>:5232/admin/family.
• Default username: admin.
• Default password: gimao.

Step 2: Connect to Calendar Service

Connect to the family calendar on your mobile phone using 【GiMao·XiaoJi】 (different phone brands may vary)

1. Open Calendar: Find “Calendar” on your phone’s home screen and click to enter.
2. Add CalDAV Account: In the calendar settings page, click on “Account Management” or “Import Schedule” and find “Other” or “CalDAV”. Fill in the server address, username, and password. After filling in, click “Next” or “Save”.
3. Synchronization Frequency: Set the synchronization frequency according to your needs.

Step 3: Add Family Birthdays

Add birthday events to the family calendar, and other devices connected to this server will be able to see these birthdays!

1. Create New Event: Select the birthday date on the calendar and click “Create New Event”.
2. Choose Calendar: In the calendar account, find the shared family birthday calendar.
3. Fill in Information: Fill in the birthday information and reminder notifications. After filling in, click the “Save” button.
4. Synchronize Birthday: The birthday event will be automatically synchronized to the calendar service, or you can choose “Synchronize Now”.

Step 4: Share Calendar Service

1. Open 【GiMao·XiaoJi】 and enter “Service Mode”.
2. Keep the device and the phone running 【GiMao·XiaoJi】 on the same local network.
3. Connect to Calendar Service: Repeat Step 2 on the new device to connect to the calendar service. After a successful connection, “Synchronize Now” to sync all events in the family calendar.

Notes

1. Check Server Address: When connecting, make sure the Radicale server address you enter is correct, or you won’t be able to connect! If you’re not sure, ask the person who set up the server.
2. Pay Attention to Synchronization Time: Sometimes there may be a slight delay in synchronizing information between devices and the server. If you’ve just added a birthday but it doesn’t show up on other devices, don’t worry. Wait a little longer or manually refresh the calendar app.
3. Protect Privacy: Although sharing birthdays is convenient, it’s also important to protect family members’ privacy! Only share necessary information among family members and don’t give out the server address and account password to others.
4. Don’t Panic if You Encounter Problems: If you encounter issues during connection or use, such as being unable to connect to the server or synchronize birthday events, first check if the network is working properly, or re-enter the server address and account password. If it still doesn’t work, ask the person who set up the server for help.
